Topic: Publishing to iOS?

Hi, my next project is a google cardboard tour that I want to publish to iPhone - does uPano support the new open source Cardboard SDK? Apple has deprecated support for the old Google Cardboard SDK as noted here:https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/122114

If I want to publish a tour on iOS, can I just import the new cardboard SDK and switch the tour preset to Google VR? Are there any other steps I need to follow? Thanks for your help, I've appreciated the quick responses and advice in using your framework.

Re: Publishing to iOS?

Hello.

I do not do AR / VR development and do not follow such news.
At this request, I tried to test the new cardboard SDK.
I did everything as written in the official documentation, and the cardboard SDK just shows me a static scene in the editor.
Maybe it will work on the device, I don't know that, but I need to test and debug it in the editor.
I tried searching the internet or YouTube for some information about the new cardboard SDK, but all I found was related to the old cardboard SDK or third party SDK / assets.

It is possible that I simply do not have enough experience in developing for VR, but right now the new cardboard SDK is some kind of useless thing for me, and I do not know what to answer you.

The link you posted is about UIWebView APIs.
How does this relate to Google VR?

Re: Publishing to iOS?

Thanks for checking into this - it relates to Google VR in that the tour presets in uPano are called Standard and Google VR. When I choose Google VR, do I need to have a specific SDK installed? The issue is that Apple is requiring the new Cardboard SDK to publish to iOS, otherwise it's not allowed on the store.

The ultimate question is basically, can I actually deploy a uPano project to iOS as it's claimed to be supported - i.e. is uPano able to make use of the new Cardboard SDK that is required by Apple to publish to the store.

Re: Publishing to iOS?

Yes, Google VR preset, this is for Google VR SDK for Unity:

Unfortunately, the Cardboard SDK doesn't work for me in the editor, so I don't know what to answer.
Most likely, the preset for Google VR will not work for the Cardboard SDK.

Please send me the link where you read that Apple requires the new Cardboard SDK and that if you use the Google VR SDK, your app will be rejected.
I could not find such information, but would really like to read this.

Re: Publishing to iOS?

Sure - here are some links:

https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=12232019b - The deprecated UIWebView class is used in the Google VR SDK and hence has been replaced with the new open source Cardboard SDK
https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/com.uni … r.ios.html - "This package is deprecated and will be removed in Unity 2020.1"

So ultimately, in order for uPano to work in VR on iOS it will need to support the new Cardboard SDK. I'm going to look into implementing the new SDK but I'm not sure what I might need to do to have it work with uPano.

Thanks for the links.
At least now I will know about it.
