Hello,
GPX file format seems to be a very useful feature for data exchange with GPS devices.
It could be very interesting to include in a future release of Online Maps some functions who can create and manage writing and reading information to/from GPX files.

As explained, the format who is an xml schema, is open, and can be used without the need to pay license fees.
Location data, elevation, time are stored in tags and can be interchanged between GPS devices and software
